Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown”: Silva Camp’s Logic For Not Fighting Chris Weidman Makes Little Sense

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

By Joshua Molina

Something’s fishy about Anderson Silva.

His manager, according to media reports, said Silva doesn’t want to fight the undefeated Chris Weidman because no one knows who Weidman is and that it would cost the UFC a lot of money promote that fight.

I thought Anderson Silva was the best fighter in MMA? No – he’s a promoter.

Soares also cited Silva having more title defenses than Weidman (9-0) having fights as another reason why he doesn’t deserve a title shot.  Considering that Silva and his management team have called out Luke Rockhold as someone to fight Silva, the team’s logic makes no sense.

Rockhold only has two more fights that Weidman. And considering that Weidman has fought in the UFC, and Rockhold hasn’t, it’s safe to assume that Weidman is more well-known than Rockhold.

For some reason, Silva has never been too excited about battling Weidman.   Too bad. Weidman, when he returns from an injury, should get a title shot.  He’s young, undefeated and deserving of a shot.

Soares said Silva might fight Weidman if it were staged in Brazil.  Silva’s team is placing too many conditions on a fight with Weidman. Silva is a fighter, and should fight anybody, anywhere, without nitpicking the opponent’s complications.

UFC President Dana White said the fight is closer than people think.

Good. Make Silva fight Rockhold and Weidman, and let him prove his greatness against the next generation of fighters.

. . . It’s nice to see Michael Bisping jumping right back in to fight Alan Belcher in April at UFC 159.

Bisping got upset by Vitor Belfort in January. He’s not taking half-a-year off. Instead, he’s fight again on April.

Fighting fast and often — that’s what fighters do.
