Georges St-Pierre Outlines Why He’s Going to Choose Upcoming Bouts “Very Carefully”

Georges St. Pierre

Some observers have speculated that Georges St-Pierre will not defend the UFC’s 185 title, if he defeats Michael Bisping, and based off comments the star has made, that could be accurate.

Last year, the former welterweight champ said he was ending a three plus year hiatus from fighting, and recently, the UFC announced GSP will face the middleweight champ Bisping. No date has been set for the fight, but UFC President Dana White has said he’s targeting July.

Since St-Pierre’s return was finalized, the Canadian hasn’t publicly outlined who he hopes to fight after Bisping. But, during a recent appearance on “The MMA Hour”, GSP said this about his future (quote via Bloody Elbow):

“I have no desire to fight until I’m 40-something years old. These are my last fight few that I’m going to do, and I want to pick them very carefully. And when I say carefully, I [mean] that I want to make the biggest fights possible. The fights that are going to cement my legacy as the best of all-time. And that’s what I want to do, I want to make history. And maybe I’m going to fail, but at least if I fail, I’m going to have no regrets when I’m going to be 50 years old.”

The soon to be 36 year-old also said in the aforementioned interview that he believes Demian Maia will defeat Jorge Masvidal, and go on to win the welterweight title from Tyron Woodley.
