Georges St-Pierre Says Fighters Should Stop Fighting “For Peanuts”

Georges St. Pierre

Georges St-Pierre’s team are attempting to negotiate a new deal with the UFC, before he launches a comeback, and the former champ says other fighters should also be trying to get better pay.

The Canadian star recently reported that test, training camp he ran went well, and that he wants to fight again. But, St-Pierre has also relayed that he’s looking for a new contract, since the UFC’s uniform deal with Reebok has cost him sponsorship money. In addition, the 35 year-old had this to say about his fellow fighters, while appearing on “The MMA Hour” (quote via MMA Fighting):

“That’s the problem with a lot of guys who complain they don’t get paid enough. It’s because they’re ready to sign anything. They got caught with their emotion and they sign anything. They’re going to fight for peanuts. You don’t want to do that. If you do that, you’ve penalized the other guys who want to get paid more.

“Why would they (the UFC) pay some guys more money if they can get another guy almost for free, you know what I mean? As partners, I think they should be more aware of this. It’s important.”

St-Pierre hasn’t fought now since 2013, when he earned a decision win over Johny Hendricks. Afterwards GSP announced he was taking a hiatus from fighting, and vacated the welterweight title.
