Georges St-Pierre Says He’s a Free Agent, After UFC Failed to Meet Deadline For Fight Offer

Georges St-Pierre

By FCF Staff

Recently Georges St-Pierre has said he plans to return to the Octagon, provided he come to new terms with the UFC, but today the star’s reporting he’s no longer under contract with the promotion.

The former welterweight champ has shocked the MMA world by announcing on “The MMA Hour” that he’s a free agent. According to St-Pierre, his lawyer has terminated the Canadian’s contract with the UFC, since the promotion did not meet a deadline to offer him a fight.

St-Pierre’s team had been negotiating for a new contract since his deal was signed in 2011, prior to the Reebok uniform agreement. St-Pierre reported that talks had been progressing with now former owner Lorenzo Fertitta, but according to GSP, talks broke down with the new ownership group (WME-IMG).

The UFC has yet to publicly comment on the situation.
