Georges St-Pierre’s Coach Says Star Retiring is a “Definite Possibility”

Following Georges St-Pierre’s decision to vacate the UFC’s middleweight title, and the news he’s been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, one of his coaches believes the fighter could retire.

St-Pierre returned to the Octagon last month for the first time since 2013, and choked out Michael Bisping to win the middleweight title. After the historic win – GSP became just the fourth fighter to win titles in two UFC weight classes – the Canadian was non-committal about remaining at 185. Then, more recently, it was revealed the former welterweight champ is battling colitis, and that he’s taking some time to address his health.

During the latest “MMA Hour”, GSP’s jiu-jitsu coach, the famed John Danaher, said this about the legend’s future (quote via MMA Fighting):

“That is a definite possibility,” Danaher said, when asked if GSP might not fight again.

“I don’t want to say yes or no because it’s not my decision, really. These are deeply personal decisions that Georges has to make. More over, they have to be made not as spur of the moment decisions…”

“From what I understand, the standard medications for ulcerative colitis take some considerable amount time to take effect – anywhere from three to eight months – before you’ll even notice any changes. We have to see how he reacts to his medication regiment and make a decision based on that.”

When St-Pierre originally announced his intention to launch a comeback, he said that provided he won, he wanted to fight a few more times.
