Following Georges St-Pierre’s historic and championship win at UFC 217, the legend’s jiu-jitsu coach says it remains unclear, if the decorated fighter will fight again.

St-Pierre returned to the Octagon in November, for the first time since 2013, and choked out Michael Bisping to become middleweight champion. Since then, however, the former welterweight champ’s been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and St-Pierre has vacated the 185 belt.

The Canadian’s jiu-jitsu coach, John Danaher, was a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast recently. While discussing St-Pierre’s future, Danaher said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“The truth is no one knows (if he will fight again) because it comes down to medical problems,” Danaher said. “Georges has got a problem in his stomach. I’m not going to claim to be a medical expert, but it’s one of the most frustrating things Georges has had to deal with because there’s certain parts of the human body that are just out of your control, and the stomach is one of them.

“There’s things that can happen in your stomach that you can’t control it. Things likes stress seem to make it worse, and the truth is that no one really knows at this point…”

After St-Pierre announced he was vacating the middleweight title, he also reported he was looking forward to working with the UFC in the coming months.
