Although Josh Jauncey recorded an impressive win at GLORY 22, and took the highly regarded Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong to the scorecards, the lightweight has had a tough time getting over what transpired that night.

Jauncey was booked to compete in the June 5th card’s lightweight contender tourney, after winning his first three bouts with GLORY. In the competition’s semifinals, Jauncey stopped  Djimè Coulibaly, before advancing to fight Sitthichai in the finals. The decorated Muay Thai fighter had taken out former GLORY champ Davit Kiria, in his semifinal bout.

Well, in the tournament’s final, Sitthichai worked his way to a unanimous decision win, and secured a future bout with current champ, Robin van Roosmalen.

“I’m happy the first fight was good, but of course, the second fight I’m not particularly happy about because I hate losing,” Jauncey relayed on a recent episode of Full Contact Fighter Radio. “I’m really hard on myself about that. For me, winning is the highest high, losing is the lowest low for me. I really don’t like losing.”

“But, as I’ve been watching the fight, I’ve watched it probably like 20 times now, I didn’t do too badly, I think, against a guy of his calibre,” Jauncey furthered. “He’s been beating all the top guys for the past year or two now, and not just outpointing them, but really smashing them and dropping them at least, or knocking them out. So I think I stood my ground…”

During the entertaining fight, Sitthichai repeatedly fired hard kicks Jauncey’s way, but the latter says most of the strikes weren’t finding their target.

“He didn’t really do any damage to me because there wasn’t any damage done. All he did was kick me in the arm, and that didn’t hurt. Everyone was making a big deal like his kicks were killing me, and they weren’t. They were just annoying. They stopped me from attacking, so, I don’t know. He’s good, but I know I can beat him next time.”

Of course, Jauncey is upset that he came up short, in what was the biggest fight of his career to date. But, the rising fighter concedes the defeat stings a little bit less, now that some time has passed.

“Now that it’s a few weeks later and I can think calmly about it, ya, I can see it in that way,” said Jauncey, when asked if he can at least console himself with the fact he lost to one of the world’s top kickboxers. “But I’m just never satisfied with losing. Ya, I can see a few good points about the situation, but I just hate it. I really don’t like it. So, whether he is one of the best in the world, whether he has smashed everybody, I don’t like that he beat me. I feel like I should have smashed him…”

GLORY 22 took place in Lille, France. With the defeat, Jauncey’s record fell to 23-5, while Sittichai moved his to 99-27-5.
