GLORY 19: Rico Verhoeven Defends Title After Errol Zimmerman Incurs Injury, Nieky Holzken Takes Tourney

Rico Verhoeven

Tonight’s main event for GLORY 19 started out with fireworks, but unfortunately the heavyweight title fight ended under unfortunate circumstances.

Early on, Errol Zimmerman threatened the champ Rico Verhoeven with heavy punches, but the latter proceeded to stun the challenger badly with counterstrikes of his own. The fight came to an end in round two, however, as Zimmerman incurred a knee injury and was unable to continue.

Nieky Holzken locked up a title fight with welterweight champ Joseph Valtellini, by scoring wins over Alexander Stetcurenko and Raymond Daniels in a one night tourney.

Holzken managed to outstrike the game Stetcurenko in the semifinals, and in the finals, he countered Daniels’ acrobatic kicks with punishing strikes from in close. Holzken went on to drop Daniels to the mat four times, the last of which took place in round three.

Holzken holds a 2013, stoppage win over Valtellini.
