GLORY Milan to Feature Title Defense From Gabriel Varga

By Press Release

New York, NY – GLORY, the world’s premier kickboxing league, today announced the full fight card for GLORY 25 Milan and GLORY SuperFight Series Milan, set to take place on Friday, Nov. 6. from the PalaIper in Monza, Italy.

For the first time ever, one of the organization’s titles will be on the line in the headline bout of its SuperFight Series, when GLORY Featherweight World Champion Gabriel Varga (26-2, 8 KO) of Canada defends his belt against Amsterdam-based Serhiy Adamchuk (30-5, 14 KO), originally from Ukraine.

The two competitors were originally slated to square-off in September before Varga suffered an injury during training camp. Adamchuk went on to defeat muay thai world champion Anvar Boynazarov via unanimous decision at the ‘Dynamite’ event, earning this title shot in Milan.

“Adamchuk wasn’t really on my radar until he joined GLORY, but that win over Marat Grigorian really put him on the map,” said Varga. “I’ve been watching tape on him and he looks like a good technical fighter and someone who comes to fight, so it should be a great fight.”

GLORY 25 Milan is headlined by the Lightweight World Championship clash between reigning Robin “Pokerface” van Roosmalen (34-6, 19 KO) of the Netherlands and challenger Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong (103-28-5, 28 KO) of Thailand. Returning lightweight legend Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan (81-2-1, 36 KO) and 22-year-old rising star Josh Jauncey (23-5, 12 KO) meet in the co-headline bout.

Varga continued, “We’re on one of the best cards of the year. Robin van Roosmalen vs. Sitthichai in the main event [of GLORY 25 Milan] is going to be a war; I am very excited about that fight. And then my friend and sparring partner Josh Jauncey is taking on the biggest challenge of his career when he faces Giorgio Petrosyan in the co-main event. Everyone is assuming Petrosyan wins that one, but honestly I’m seeing things from Josh in sparring which would make them think otherwise. When he gets loose and gets creative, he is very problematic, so that’s going to be an interesting fight.”

Filling out the card for GLORY 25 Milan is a one-night, four-man Welterweight Contender Tournament with championship implications. In the first of two semi-final bouts, Dutch-Surinamese striker Murthel “The Predator” Groenhart (56-18-3, 32 KO) takes on hometown favorite Nicola Gallo (22-9-1, 6 KO) of Italy. The second semi-final scrap pits powerful Swiss boxer and muay thai stylist Yoann Kongolo (60-5, 45 KO) up against unorthodox French karateka Karim “Gadjetboy” Ghajji (93-10-1, 49 KO).

The tournament winner will face GLORY Welterweight World Champion Nieky “The Natural” Holzken at GLORY 26 Amsterdam on Dec. 4.
