The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s upcoming October 29th event was dealt a serious blow today, as the promotion’s President Dana White has announced that welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will no longer compete on the card due to injury. White stated on his official Twitter account:
I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad sh– everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!!
Shortly after announcing that St. Pierre was off the UFC 137 card, White added:
It’s GSP’S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It’s looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho
According to another ‘tweet’ from White, the scheduled bout between former champ BJ Penn and Nick Diaz will now be the card’s main event.
UFC 137 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will also feature Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione, Mirko Filipovic vs. Roy Nelson and Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop on the main card.
