On the same day the UFC has announced that light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones will fight Alexander Gustafsson on September 21st, UFC President Dana White has relayed tentative dates for two other huge bouts.
While speaking in a medium scrum today in Winnipeg to promote Saturday’s UFC 161 card, White announced that the promotion is looking to match welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre up against Johny Hendricks in November. Although the card’s number isn’t certain, it’s expected to be UFC 167. No specific date or venue has been set for the card, however, the card will take place in Las Vegas.
The UFC President also announced that the promotion is targeting UFC 166 in October for the rubber match between heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez and former champ Junior dos Santos. The event is expected to be hosted by Houston, Texas.
Velasquez and dos Santos fought last December, and Velasquez worked his way to a one sided UD win. In their first meeting, at UFC on FOX 1 in November, 2011, dos Santos stopped the current champ early in round one.
