Recently Henry Cejudo pledged he would not compete in Nevada, as a result of the five year suspension that state’s commission handed Nick Diaz, and the decorated wrestler says that still includes a championship fight.

Diaz was suspended for five years recently, following a positive test for marijuana earlier this year, which marked the third time he’s been flagged for the drug. The suspension was widely criticized for being too harsh, and Cejudo has said he’ll no longer compete in Nevada due to the decision.

Cejudo is scheduled to fight fellow flyweight contender Jussier Formiga on November 21st, and if he wins, he could be tapped to face champion Demetrious Johnson. Cejudo has already said he wouldn’t fight in Nevada, even for a championship bout, and on the latest “UFC Tonight” he repeated that commitment (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I hate the rankings. There’s only one champion. I believe I’m the next to get the shot. But I won’t do it in Vegas.”

“Because it’s unjust what they’re doing to Diaz,” Cejudo added, when asked about why he won’t fight in the state. “It’s ridiculous. I can’t allow this guy to be treated that way. I don’t even know him. I’ve been a gold medalist. My life is based on significance and not success now. I’m not trying to start a rally.”

Cejudo (9-0) has gone 3-0 since he joined the UFC and is currently ranked #5 at 125. Formiga (18-3) is 4-2 with the promotion and is ranked #5.

UFC FN 78 will be hosted by Monterrey, Mexico.
