Injury Removes Josh Thomson From Sept. 10th Bout with Maximo Blanco

By FCF Staff

Josh Thomson’s 2011 campaign will continue on without a fight, as a reported foot injury has forced the veteran to withdraw from his upcoming September 10th, Strikeforce bout with Maximo Blanco

Thomson referred to the injury in his official Twitter account and there has been multiple reports confirming his withdrawal from the upcoming bout.

The 32 year-old fighter (18-4) hasn’t competed since New Year’s Eve 2010, when he lost by unanimous decision to Tatsuya Kawajiri at K-1’s Dynamite event. Prior to the defeat, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter scored wins over Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante and Pat Healy while competing under the Strikeforce banner.

Strikeforce has not made any official announcement regarding Thomson’s injury.

The upcoming September 10th event will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will feature the semifinals of Strikeforce’s ongoing heavyweight grand-prix, as Sergei Kharitonov will take on Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva will face Daniel Cormier.
