Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger Agree to Sept. 17th, UFC Fight Night Bout

By FCF Staff

Jake Ellenberger has apparently landed the fight with Jake Shields he’s repeatedly called for, as today the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that the two welterweights have agreed to meet, September 17th in New Orleans. The bout will headline the upcoming UFC Fight Night “Battle on the Bayou” card, which will be hosted by the city’s Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. (Pictured: Shields)

Ellenberger (24-5) is coming off a first round, knockout victory over Sean Pierson at UFC 129 in April, to run the Nebraska fighter’s win streak to four. The former collegiate wrestler hasn’t been defeated since his Octagon debut in September, 2009, when he dropped a tightly contested split decision to Carlos Condit.

Shields (26-5-1) will be looking to rebound from his first defeat since 2004, as the renowned grappler failed to unseat UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre at UFC 129, losing by unanimous decision. The loss ended Shield’s remarkable fifteen fight win streak. Prior to facing St. Pierre, Shields worked his way to a split decision win over Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 in October. The bout was Shields’ UFC debut.

Although the UFC recently announced that it would begin promoting five round, non-title bouts in the future, today’s confirmation stated that the Shields, Ellenberger bout will be three rounds.

The September 17th UFC Fight Night will be broadcast live on Spike.
