Jamie Varner Ends Retirement Talk With First Round TKO of Nate Jolly

Varner

By FCF Staff

Former WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner needed just 69 seconds to stave off any further retirement speculation, as the 26 year-old stopped Nate Jolly tonight at Xtreme Fighting Championship 14 in Orlando to return to the winner’s column.

After Varner was briefly taken to the mat in the card’s headliner, the veteran scrambled back to his feet and swept Jolly to the mat. Working from the top position, Varner quickly finished Jolly off with several hard punches from above,  bringing about the referee’s intervention to record his 18th pro win.

The victory comes after Varner was upset by Dakota Cochrane  just last month, who worked his way to a unanimous decision win over the UFC vet at Titan Fighting Championship 20, which handed Varner his third loss in four fights.

Here are the results from tonight’s XFC 14 card.

Jamie Varner def. Nate Jolly via TKO (punches) – R1, 1:09
Carmelo Marrero def. Scott Barrett via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Marianna Kheyfets def. Molly Helsel via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Reggie Pena def. Josh Clark via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)
Nicolae Cury def. Elijah Harshbarger via submission (armbar) – R1, 1:27
Mikey Gomez def. Mike Bernhard via submission (rear-naked choke) – R2, 3:50
John Mahlow def. Bruce Connors via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
