Following Alexander Gustafsson’s win over Glover Teixeira, the consensus has been that the light-heavyweight contender will challenge the winner of Daniel Cormier – Jon Jones II. But, according to his teammate Jimi Manuwa, he’s been promised a title shot, if he defeats Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 214.

Recently Manuwa appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and the dangerous striker reported the following (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I’m okay, I can’t argue with Jon Jones getting the fight,” Manuwa said, while referring to the fact Jones will fight 205 champ Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. “He’s one of the greatest fighters of all-time, like I said before. I believe I’ll knock Volkan out and Dana said I’ll get a title shot after that, so if one more person has to get it, then so be it.”

Manuwa was also asked about the fact that he could be tapped for a title shot, before his friend Gustafsson, and the British fighter stated:

“We both don’t really care who gets the title shot first. Alex I’d say he’s the best in the world and I’d be happy for him to get it, and I’d be happy to get it myself. We don’t let that come in between us. We train together, help each other out, we’re friends and good sparring partners, so I don’t really care who gets it…”

The 37 year-old Manuwa is coming off consecutive, KO wins over Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson, after he was stopped by Anthony Johnson in 2015.

UFC 214 will take place on July 29th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
