John Kavanagh has said several times before that he’d like to see Conor McGregor fight Nate Diaz for a third time, and now the Irish fighter’s coach is calling for the fight to take place on St. Patrick’s Day.

Since McGregor was stopped by Floyd Mayweather in August, the consensus has been that the UFC champion will fight Diaz next. The reason being that the rubber match is likely the biggest fight the promotion could book for McGregor.

Recently Kavanagh attended the launch for the Original Penguin AW17 collection, and the Straight Blast Gym leader told Mike Sheridan the following (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“If it was my choice, and I must stress that this is only my choice and that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, it would be Nate Diaz in March,” Kavanagh said. “That’s what I would push towards.

“I have in my head that it would be a Paddy’s Day card in New York, Nate Diaz 3. I think that would be absolutely amazing. That’s what I would wish for.”

McGregor faced Diaz for the first time in March, 2016, and was submitted by the veteran fighter. In their rematch last August, however, McGregor won by decision.

Kavanagh also shot down a recent report that said McGregor – Diaz III was close to being finalized for December 30th.
