Jon Jones’ Attorney Says Test Shows USADA Flag Due to Contaminated Product

Jon Jones reported in August that he had received “good news”, after being pulled from UFC 200 due to a USADA flag, and it look like the fighter could receive a reduced suspension.

Jones was scheduled to fight Daniel Cormier on July 9th. But due to a positive test for the banned substances hydroxy-clomiphene and Letrozole, Jones was pulled from the card.

Recently Jones’ lawyer, Howard Jacobs appeared on The Luke Thomas Show on Sirius. During the interview, Jacobs reported the following (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“We’ve been able to establish the source of the prohibited substances,” Jacobs said. “It came from a product that Jon took that was not labelled with either of these substances. We had it tested; the product was contaminated with both of them. I know USADA also independently had the product tested; their testing confirms what we found. We then sent essentially the same pills that we had had tested to be tested by USADA’s lab, which also found the same thing. Pretty much every time it’s been tested, it’s shown that the product is contaminated with both clomiphene and Letrozole.”

Jacobs also added that he believes the confirmation will lead to Jones receiving a “significant reduction” in his suspension, since the fighter didn’t know he was taking prohibited substances.

Jones fought last in April and decisioned Ovince Saint Preux to win the interim, 205 title.
