Jon Jones Cites “The Old Man and his Knee” As Reason For UFC 151 Cancellation

UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones

By FCF Staff

It’s been a turbulent couple of weeks for the UFC and its light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and although the all-star fighter’s next bout is set, tension regarding the cancellation of UFC 151 still lingers.

Of course, after the promotion announced that the September 1st, UFC 151 card was going to be cancelled, UFC President Dana White was quick to lay the blame at the feet of Jones. The 25 year-old turned down a replacement fight with Chael Sonnen, sparking the anger of White and plenty of fans.

Case in point, Jones was the target of a tweet Saturday, which stated “thanks to Johnny Bones I have no plans tonight.”

The 16-1 fighter responded by saying: “Thanks to the old man and his knee, I don’t either.”

Although Jones apologized recently for the role he played in the card’s cancellation, the fighter has stood by his camp’s decision to turn down the bout with Sonnen. The reference to the 42 year-old Henderson as an “old man”, however, may not sit well with fans of the legendary fighter.

Jones is now scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort, September 22nd in Toronto, Ontario.
