Jose Aldo Believes He’ll “Never” Get Rematch With Conor McGregor: “He’s Running”

Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo campaigned for a rematch with Conor McGregor for some time, following his devastating loss to the star, but the featherweight champ doesn’t think he’ll face his rival again.

Immediately after McGregor knocked Aldo out in 2015, the long time champ called for an immediate rematch. Then, after Aldo won the interim 145 title last summer by defeating Frankie Edgar, it looked like a rematch might take place. But, McGregor ended up winning the lightweight title and was forced to vacate the featherweight title.

Aldo spoke with the press in his native Brazil recently, and when asked if he believes he’ll face McGregor again, he stated (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Never. Never,” Aldo said. “I think it was close once. Today, with this fight between the UFC and him, from both sides. The UFC has tried to do this fight, and he didn’t want it. He’s running. He won’t accept it. But we’ll see. I don’t know if this fight happens.”

McGregor’s next MMA bout is up in the air, as the lightweight champ is hoping to box Floyd Mayweather. Aldo was also asked on whether he thinks the long rumored bout will happen, and the Brazilian said he doubts it will. Aldo believes the camps will not be able to come to an agreement on the revenue split for the fight.

As far as Aldo’s next bout, he’s booked to fight Max Holloway on June 3rd at UFC 212.
