Following Jose Aldo’s declaration that he’s done fighting, the interim featherweight champ’s coach, Andre Pederneiras, has weighed in on the situation.

After the UFC announced that Conor McGregor will challenge lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez on November 12th, while still holding the 145 title, Aldo has called for his UFC release. Initially, UFC President Dana White said that McGregor would be stripped of the featherweight belt, if he didn’t rematch Aldo next.

Aldo and Pederneiras are expected to meet with UFC officials next week to discuss the future of the Brazilian star, and recently the Nova Uniao coach told MMA Junkie this:

“I think they lacked truth in the situation,” Pederneiras said. “When you promise something and you don’t deliver, you can even get a new chance – but the problem was the number of times it happened. I’m(UFC President) Dana White’s biggest defender. I always tell my athletes we need to trust him, because what he and Lorenzo (Fertitta, former UFC CEO) did for the sport – I don’t think anyone else could have.

“But I can’t defend him and then just let him off the hook. Just because I’m friends with him and I like him and I appreciate what he’s done for the sport doesn’t mean I’ll say he’s right about everything. The situation with Aldo, specifically – the UFC acted totally wrong.”

Recently White said that if McGregor does win the 155 title at UFC 205, that he will be forced to vacate one of his two championships.
