Joseph Benavidez Looks Forward to Tough Challenge at UFC 152

By Michael Hatamoto

Originally scheduled to serve as the UFC 152 main event later this month, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will now meet in a co-main event flyweight title fight. The winner will become the UFC’s first flyweight champion, and be tasked with officially ushering in the flyweight era in 2013.

This is a fight Benavidez should be able to win, as he’s a very dominant wrestler with the ability to use his hands and submit opponents. Through his 18-fight career, his only losses were both decision losses to Dominick Cruz in the bantamweight division – since dropping weight, he has found great success in the cage.

Being bumped from the main event may be a blessing in disguise, as MMA fans are going to tune in for a championship fight with the polarizing Jon Jones looking to defend his title against Vitor Belfort.

I know the flyweights don’t tend to get a lot of attention from casual fans, but I greatly enjoy watching the lighter fighters scrap. Both fighters should put on a great show in a five-round championship fight, and I hope fans appreciate their effort.
