Junior dos Santos Believes “Way Better” Stipe Miocic Will Defeat Alistair Overeem

The consensus is that Stipe Miocic’s first title defense will come against Alistair Overeem, and former champ Junior dos Santos doesn’t expect the belt to change hands.

Miocic laid claim to the UFC’s heavyweight title on May 14th, by putting away Fabricio Werdum in the first round. The bout took place one week after Overeem stopped Andrei Arlovski, which was his fourth straight win.

Recently JDS appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and he was asked to weigh-in on Miocic – Overeem. Dos Santos has fought both men in the past; he decisioned Miocic in a tightly contested war, but was stopped by Overeem in the second round. “Cigano” offered this prediction (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“If it happens, I’m going to give the advantage to Miocic again over Overeem,” dos Santos said. “I don’t think Overeem has what it takes to beat Miocic. Miocic is really hard. Do you remember my fight against him, against Miocic? It was one of the toughest fights I’ve ever had. He hits very hard. He’s got really heavy hands, so I think when I watch Miocic fight and Overeem fight, I think Miocic is way better than him.”

Dos Santos, who is coming off a clear cut, UD win over Ben Rothwell in April, also noted that “you never know” what can happen; “It’s MMA”.
