Kelvin Gastelum Returning to 170, Fighting Matt Brown Next

Kelvin Gastelum

By FCF Staff

It looks like Kelvin Gastelum’s ban from the welterweight division is already over, as the UFC has announced that the fighter will fight Matt Brown on November 21st. The bout will headline UFC FN 79, which will take place in Monterrey, Mexico.

After Gastelum came in way over weight for his bout with welterweight Tyron Woodley in January, which he lost by split decision, the UFC returned the former TUF winner to middleweight. In June, Gastelum (11-1) stopped veteran Nate Marquardt, and requested that he be allowed to move back to 170.

Brown (20-13), meanwhile, is coming off a memorable, submission win over Tim Means last month, after being decisioned by Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks in consecutive bouts. Brown is currently ranked #5 in the promotion’s welterweight division.

No other bouts have been booked yet for UFC FN 79.
