Kenny Florian to Challenge Champ Jose Aldo at UFC 136

By FCF Staff

UFC 136 will have two title fights, not one, as according to the promotion’s Twitter account Kenny Florian will challenge Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo at the event. The news comes after a day of fight confirmations for the upcoming October 8th card, which will be hosted by the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Florian (14-5) (pictured) is coming off a successful debut at 145lbs., as the former lightweight contender scored a unanimous decision over rising featherweight Diego Nunes at UFC 131 in June.

Aldo (19-1) last competed in April and earned a UD win over challenger Mark Hominick at UFC 129. The pound-for-pound contender was expected to face Chad Mendes in his next title defense, but an injury delayed the bout and Mendes accepted an August 6th fight with Rani Yahya.

The UFC confirmed several bouts Friday for the October 8th card, including a third fight between lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.

Other bouts that have been added to UFC 136 include Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow, Matt Grice vs. Josh Grispi, Demain Maia vs. Jorge Santiago and Joe Lauzon vs. Melvin Guillard.
