After defeating Magomed Mustafaev this past weekend, Kevin Lee extended a warning to the lightweight division’s new champ, Conor McGregor.

Lee took on Mustafaev at UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast, and choked the fighter unconscious with a second round, rear-naked-choke. The victory was the wrestler’s third straight, and it moved Lee’s UFC record to 7-2.

During a backstage interview, the rising fighter had this to say about McGregor (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“He’s the champ of this division now,” Lee said. “I said it a while ago – I’ll be the champ. He’s 28. I’m 24. He ain’t got nothing on me but some years.”

“I think after his last fight, (McGregor) said you’ve got to have some height, some reach, some weight – I’m 195 pounds outside of fighting – 77-inch reach, 5-10, a hell of a wrestler, so this fight was about showcasing that I’m the best wrestler in this division.”

It remains to be seen what comes next for McGregor. The Irish star has yet to defend the featherweight title he won last December, by knocking out Jose Aldo.

Recently UFC President Dana White announced that McGregor won’t be fighting again before May, 2017. McGregor and his girlfriend Dee Devlin are expecting their first child.
