Kickboxing sensation and undefeated MMA prospect Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (5-0) has signed with the UFC and will make his debut in the octagon in place of an injured Mike Stumpf in the welterweight contest with Justin Edwards (7-2) at UFC 143 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev. on Feb. 4.

Stumpf’s injury has not been disclosed yet. The bout between Thompson and Edwards will take place on the preliminary card that will air live on FX.

Thompson, who hails from Simpsonville, South Carolina, competed in Chuck Norris’ now defunct World Combat League kickboxing series and a highly-decorated amateur kickboxer.  He made his professional MMA debut in Feb. 2010, scoring a second round TKO on Jeremy Joles with punches, and has since reeled off four additional victories.

Edwards was a cast member on season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV.  He is looking to rebound from a loss by way of decision to John Maguire at UFC 138.

In the UFC 143 main event, Nick Diaz will face Carlos Condit for the interim UFC welterweight championship.
