KJ Noons vs. Billy Evangelista Confirmed for Next Month’s Strikeforce

Noons

By FCF Staff

Approximately one month shy from Strikeforce’s December 17th event in San Diego, California, the promotion has confirmed that lightweight KJ Noons will take on Billy Evangelista on the main card.

The upcoming event, which will be hosted by Valley View Casino Center, will feature Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez taking on Jorge Masvidal in the main event.

Noons (10-4) will be looking to end a two fight losing streak, as the experienced strikers has dropped back-to-backs bouts to Nick Diaz and most recently, Jorge Masvidal. Noons’ last win took place in August, 2010, when he stopped Jorge Gurgel.

Evangelista (11-1) is coming off the first pro loss of his career, as the lightweight dropped a unanimous decision to the aforementioned Masvidal in March. Evangelista has scored seven wins while competing for Strikeforce, which includes victories over Nam Phan, Gurgel and most recently Waachim Spiritwolf.

The upcoming “Melendez vs. Masvidal” card will be broadcast on Showtime. Some of the other bouts confirmed for the event include Cris “Cyborg” Santos vs. Hiroko Yamanaka and Gegard Mousasi vs. Ovince St. Preux.
