M-1 Challenge XXVII: Magalhaes Defends LHW Belt in Highlight Reel Fashion

Magalhaes

By FCF Staff

Renowned submission artist and recent ADCC winner, Vinny Magalhaes, utilized his ever evolving striking skills to defend his M-1 Global Light-Heavyweight Championship tonight in Phoenix, Arizona, by stopping challenger Mikhail Zayats in the third round.

Magalhaes brought his title defense to a close by catching Zayats with a right head kick and several follow up strikes, to record his fifth win in a row.

In the other feature attraction at M-1 Challenge XXVII, Kenny Garner entrenched a rematch with injured heavyweight champion Guram Gugenishvili, by forcing Maxim Grishin to tap in the fifth round with strikes. With the win, Garner laid claim to the promotion’s interim heavyweight  title, which came available after Gugenishvili was forced to withdraw from the card due to an arm injury.

Gugenishvili submitted Garner in their first meeting last October with a second round, guillotine choke.

Here are the results from tonight’s M-1 Challenge XXVII Showtime broadcast.

Vinny Magalhaes def. Mikhail Zayats via TKO (strikes) – R3, 1:13

Kenny Garner def. Maxim Grishin via submission (punches) – R5, 4:07

Arthur Guseinov def. Eddie Arizmendi via submission (heel hook) – R1, 0:50

Yasubey Enomoto def. Josh Thorpe via submission (triangle choke) – R1, 1:07

Daniel Madrid def. Tom Gallicchio via submission (armbar) – R1, 0:48
