Manager Confirms “Cyborg” Santos Still in Talks with Strikeforce

By FCF Staff

Fans may still see Cris “Cyborg” Santos defend her Strikeforce middleweight title just yet, as despite recent reports and speculation to the contrary, FCF has confirmed that the fighter is still in talks with the promotion.

Master Rudimar Fedrigo, “Cyborg’s” manager, informed FCF today that indeed they are still negotiating with Strikeforce over a new contract for the 10-1 fighter. Fedrigo would not provide any details regarding the ongoing talks, but did say that Santos “really wants to renew with the event” and that “it’s just a financial issue” in respect to a new agreement with Strikeforce. Speculation regarding “Cyborg’s” future has increased since Cage Potato reported yesterday that the Chute Boxe fighter has entered free agency and that she is close to signing a contract with another promotion.

The Brazilian publication Tatame reported later that the fighter’s  management and Strikeforce were still having discussions, but also quoted Fedrigo stating that Santos is “set to fight in Brazil” and that she may also compete in Singapore.

FCF contacted several Zuffa representatives regarding the situation and were informed by Strikeforce publicist Ryan Grab that the company had no comment.

Santos has not fought since June, 2010, when she stopped Jan Finney in the second round to defend her 145lb middleweight championship. Since signing with Strikeforce the 25 year-old Brazilian has gone 4-0, including stoppage wins over Hitomi Akano, Marloes Coenen and Gina Carano.

Stay tuned to FCF for more news on this as it develops.
