After a few twists and turns, Rory MacDonald has been booked to rematch Robbie Lawler on July 11th, and the contender’s former teammate believes the UFC title is headed back to Canada.

When MacDonald battles Lawler at UFC 189, he’ll be looking to avenge the split decision loss he incurred versus the reigning, welterweight champ in November, 2013. According to MacDonald’s ex-training partner, Toshido MMA’s Matt Dwyer, however, the rematch will be different.

“I think Rory’s got it this time,” Dwyer relayed on a recent episode of Full Contact Fighter’s podcast. “Rory’s going to bring it this time.”

After MacDonald scored an impressive, stoppage win over Tarec Saffiedine last October, the UFC announced he would challenge for the title next. But, following Lawler’s tightly contested, split decision victory over Johny Hendricks in December, the promotion said a rubber match was next.

Lawler, however, elected to take some time off and Hendricks opted to fight Matt Brown this Saturday at UFC 185. As a result, the 25 year-old MacDonald has received his title shot after all.

“Especially after his fight there against Tarec Saffiedine, I think Rory’s mindset has changed a bit, but he’s ready,” said Dwyer. “I’ve got full confidence in him that he’s going to win it and become the world welterweight champ of the UFC.”

The 25 year-old Dwyer, meanwhile, is coming off a “Performance of the Night” cinching, KO win over William Macario last month. The victory returned Dwyer to the win column, after he was stopped by Albert Tumenov in his Octagon debut last October.

“Oh, if I’m healthy, like I said before this fight, if I can come out fairly unscathed, I want to take another fight right away,” Dwyer said, while discussing his plans for 2015. “If I can take another fight in a month or two, I think that would be great. I want to get right back in there.”

“This is fun,” added Dwyer. “This is what I want to do. This is what excites me. I’m not really into the partying or anything like that anymore. This is what excites me. This is what I find fun and very interesting, so I want to do it as much as I can man. So, this year, I want to do as much as I can, for sure.”

Dwyer currently holds an overall record of 8-2 and is 4-1 in his last 5 fights.
