Matt Mitrione, Among Several Fighters to Criticize UFC’s Reebok Uniform Deal
By FCF Staff
Earlier on Wednesday, the compensation fighters will receive as a result of the UFC’s new uniform deal with Reebok was revealed, and Matt Mitrione is one of several who isn’t impressed.
The new deal gets underway in July, and will compensate fighters based on how many fights they’ve had in the UFC. For example, fighters who have fought 6 to 10 times will receive $5,000, while those who have 21 bouts and more with the promotion will be paid $20,000. These totals do not included what a fighter could make through royalties.
Following the news of what the deal will pay out, the following comment appeared on Mitrione’s Twitter feed:
Congrats @Reebok, you got the deal of the century. Unfortunately, it was at the cost of the fighters. Hope the bad press is worth it. @ufc

@NateBasch @Reebok @ufc correct, other organizations do, do this but the pay is steady and there are unions protecting their interests.

Mitrione isn’t the only fighter who evidently isn’t happy with the deal, as here are some of the other comments that competitors have made:
I understand the reasoning given for the Reebok deal, but the deal has to make sense for at least 80% of the fighters in regards to tiers

Brendan Schaub reported that “I’ve made six figures in sponsorship in each of my last 6 fights”.
Chris Kelades also argued the “$70 million looking kinda weak”.
It should also be noted that some fighters have praised the deal, like Scott Jorgensen and Ryan Benoit.
Checked my email to good news! 21 in the books with zuffa. Thank you @lorenzofertitta @danawhite @Reebok @ufc

I have done very well in sponsorship for my 2ufc bouts but sponsorship is just a bonus. I get paid to beat my opponents ass @arielhelwani
