Bellator will crown  a new heavyweight champ, via the promotion’s ongoing, grand-prix tourney, but Matt Mitrione believes Stipe Miocic will remain the best fighter in that division.

Mitrione will battle Roy Nelson tonight at Bellator 194, in an opening round contest for the ongoing tournament. Other competitors include Chael Sonnen (who defeated “Rampage” Jackson in their quarterfinal bout), “King Mo” Lawal, Ryan Bader, Fedor Emelianenko and Frank Mir.

Recently Mitrione spoke with MMA Junkie, and when asked if he could make a claim as the planet’s best heavyweight, provided he wins the tourney, the UFC vet said this:

“No, I do not (think winning the tournament makes me the top heavyweight). Stipe is the No. 1 guy in the world. I don’t think anybody can argue that at all.”

“I think it would be really dope to have the chance to compete against him,” Mitrione added. “If the Ali Act ever got passed, I think that would be really dope. And I think it would be great for the fans. Then I find out, ‘Are you really that good or not?’”

Mitrione is riding a three fight winning streak heading into Bellator 194, which will take place in Uncasville, Connecticut.
