Media Watch: Alistair Overeem, Dana White Bury the Hatchet
By Michael Hatamoto
Suspended UFC heavyweight fighter Alistair Overeem and UFC President Dana White recently met to discuss Overeem’s current status with the No. 1 MMA promotion.
Overeem was expected to fight Dos Santos earlier in the year, but failed a drug test – he had a 14-to-1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio, which is more than double NSAC’s allowable limit.
The Dutchman is suspended until Dec. 27, but he hopes to jump back into the cage as soon as possible.
Here are Overeem’s thoughts regarding his recent interview with White, according to MMAJunkie:
“Dana is an honest guy. He’s also a direct guy. We’re actually very alike. I’m also very direct. I Think we’ll get along. We’re just taking our time. It was a good meeting. It was very calm. We voiced our opinions about what happened and just took it easy. It was positive. We were actually very much on the same page. He appreciated that I came in to speak to him directly, and I was satisfied after the meeting. It was very positive.”
White also shared his thoughts about the meeting (via MMAFighting):
“He went downstairs and waited for fourty minutes until I called him upstairs, and then came into my office like a man. Nothing but respect for Alistair now. We all make mistakes and we all do stupid s***. I say this all the time. It’s all in how you handle yourself after. HE handled himself like a f***ing stud… He’s doing all the right things now. He’s fixing all the wrongs. We’ll see what happens.”
In addition, Overeem attacked heavyweight Junior Dos Santos again, saying the Brazilian champion is afraid to fight him.
A fight matchup between Dos Santos and Overeem would be an easy fight to sell, as MMA fans love to see two heavyweights stand and bang. Dos Santos has an excellent boxing background while Overeem is a heavy handed Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer.
