Megumi Fujii Announces Retirement Fight

Fujii

By Timothy Gilbert

Renowned women’s strawweight Megumi Fujii has announced her retirement declaring that her upcoming fight will be her last.

Fuji (26-2) has had a long and storied career in the cage, one that began with a 22-0 run. She has competed against some of the best female fighters in the world, racking up wins against Mika Nagano, Carla Esparza and Lisa Ellis.

Now at the age of 39, Fuji has declared that her upcoming fight at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd on October 5 will be her last.

A black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, FujiI used her premier grappling abilities to finish 19 of her opponents by way of submission. She has only lost twice in her nine-year professional career, dropping decisions to Zoila Gurgel and Jessica Aguilar under the Bellator banner.

Fuji’s declaration marks the third fighter to leave the sport of MMA in the past few days. Her announcement follows Renato Sobral and Seth Petruzelli who retired earlier this week.
