MFC 40: Kevin Croom to Challenge Bantamweight Champ Anthony Birchak
By FCF Staff
The Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that it has signed Kevin Croom to a multi-fight deal, and that the bantamweight will challenge the promotion’s champ Anthony Birchak, May 9th.
The bout will be one of three title fights that will go down at MFC 40, as Tom Gallicchio will battle Kurt Southern for the vacant lightweight championship, and middleweight champ Sam Alvey will also compete. The veteran’s opponent has not been determined yet.
Croom (13-4) is currently riding an eight fight win streak and is currently scheduled to fight Bryan Goldsby at a Titan FC event, February 28th. The bantamweight’s MFC title shot is contingent on Croom winning the upcoming bout.
“I’m just a guy from a lower-middle class family from Missouri so being the MFC champion would mean the world to me. It would be the coolest thing to ever happen in my life,” Croom was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion.
“I feel unbreakable. The biggest thing is I know is that I won’t beat myself. At this level in this sport, everyone is a gifted athlete so it really becomes more of a mental game. Right now, I have my mental game plan at 100%.”
Birchak (11-1) is coming off a submission win over Tito Jones at MFC 38 in October, after earning a UD win over Ryan Benoit at MFC 37 last May.
MFC 40 will be hosted by Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Centre and will be broadcast on AXS TV.
