Yoel Romero has won seven straight fights, and is coming off a win over middleweight contender “Jacare” Souza, but Michael Bisping says the decorated wrestler doesn’t deserve a title shot.

Bisping is preparing to face Dan Henderson at UFC 204 this Saturday, in what will be his first title defense, since he knocked out Luke Rockhold in June to become champ. Romero, meanwhile, is scheduled to face former champion Chris Weidman at UFC 205, November 12th.

If Romero defeats Weidman on that date, then the Cuban fighter’s case for a title shot will have never been more compelling, But, while appearing on MMA Fighting.com‘s “MMA Hour” recently, Bisping had this to say about Romero.

“I’ll tell you who I don’t think deserves it — Yoel Romero,” Bisping said. “I don’t think he deserves it. There’s no smoke without fire. He got a reduced sentence, but the fact is, he still got a sentence. Even if you take performance enhancing drugs, the benefits of those stay in your system for a long, long time. So I don’t think Yoel Romero deserves it.”

Romero recently concluded a six month suspension from USADA, following a positive test for banned substances. The fighter and his team, however, were able to prove that a supplement Romero took was tainted, and that he was unaware he was taking a prohibited substance.

UFC 204 will take place in Manchester, England.
