Michael Bisping To Alan Belcher: “All I’ve Got To Do Is Show Up, Slap Your Little Face, Take My Check And Go Home”

While you’d be hard pressed to argue that Michael Bisping isn’t one of MMA’s most polarizing fighters, there’s also no questioning the fact that he’s one of the sport’s most captivating, in and out of the cage. The British fighter has retained a position at the top of the middleweight rankings for several years, and his gift for trash talk and promoting a fight rivals the talents of Chael Sonnen.

Case in point, as UFC 159 approaches, and as Sonnen continues to praise Jon Jones rather than trash him, it was Bisping who took center stage in this week’s media call. Bisping will take on another of the middleweight division’s top fighters in Alan Belcher, and while the American appeared set on keeping the call relatively civil, Bisping had other ideas.

“A win over me for Alan Belcher would be, by far, the biggest win of his pathetic career,” Bisping said. “No one gives a f–k about Alan Belcher.”

As Belcher responded by saying “that’s right, so you better not lose to me”, a fired up Bisping interrupted by adding:

“I ain’t going to lose to you mate. It’s in the bag…it’s a formality. All I’ve got to do is show up, slap your little face, take my check and go home.”

While Bisping (23-5) is, as usual, obviously confident that he’ll take out Belcher (18-7) Saturday night, he’s also keenly aware of the importance of the fight. The 34 year-old fighter is coming off a headkick stoppage loss to Vitor Belfort in January, and the vet can’t afford another defeat and remain within title shot range.

“Obviously it puts me back in the win column and eradicates my last loss,” said Bisping, when asked what a win over Belcher would do for his career. “You’re only as good as your last fight. My last fight was a loss, and I don’t take that too well. I want to win fights…it’s a win over a top ten opponent and it gets me back into the mix for a title shot. That’s what I want.”

“As long as there is life in my body I will continue to try to get that title shot,” added Bisping. “I’m a fighter, I want to be a world champion….as long as my body can keep doing it, I’m going to keep trying.”

Bisping cited the need to be injury free, and the former TUF winner revealed earlier this year that he’s been dealing with nerve issues in his arm and neck.

“Healthwise going into this fight I’m fantastic,” said Bisping. “Fighters, over the years, we accumulate injuries but nothing that’s going to stop me from destroying Alan Belcher Saturday night.”

“I’ve had a great camp, feel fantastic, and yes, all fighters carry a few injuries here and there, but there’s nothing that’s going to hinder my performance,” Bisping furthered. “There’s nothing on this planet that’s going to help Alan Belcher.”

UFC 159 will be hosted by the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and the main card will be available via pay-per-view.
