Michael Johnson Explains Why He’s Tony Ferguson’s “Kryptonite”

Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson is the last man to defeat Tony Ferguson, and recently the veteran fighter outlined why he believes he’s “El Cucuy’s” “kryptonite”.

Ferguson and Johnson fought back in 2012 at UFC on FOX 3, and the latter worked his way to a decision win. Since then, however, Ferguson has won 10 straight fights and currently holds the interim lightweight title.

Recently Johnson spoke with UFC.com, in advance of Ferguson’s April 7th bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, and he said this:

“I was just better than him that night. He’s definitely improved since then, and you have to see he’s been working. I just think I’m a guy that’s Tony’s kryptonite, somebody that comes forward, somebody that’s faster than him. That being said, me and Tony fought so long ago. I gave him a chance to get it back and he didn’t accept it, which really surprised me.”

Johnson, meanwhile, is coming off a submission loss to featherweight contender Darren Elkins, and has dropped three straight fights.

“I’ve had some time to take for myself, get my mind right and get refocused again,” said Johnson, while discussing his plans. “I’m gonna do one more at 145 and then see how I feel. I felt great at 145, I might have lost a little bit of power, but I went back to the drawing board and I’m working on that now, so we’re gonna do one more at that weight.”

Ferguson – Nurmagomedov will headline UFC 223, which will take place in Brooklyn, New York.
