Mixed Martial Arts Returns To Maui!

Mixed Martial Arts Returns To Maui!
by Chris Onzuka – Chris@Onzuka.com

Warrior Inc. presents:
Warriors of the New Millennium II
Friday, November 24, 2000
Maui War Memorial Gymnasium
7 p.m. doors open at 6 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at Requests Music in Wailuku and Lahaina & Tropical Disc in Kihei or you can contact Lee @ (808) 264-2684.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Romolo Barros is hosting his second event on the "Valley Isle." Hawaiian fans on the other islands have been envious of FutureBrawl, which is held on Oahu. The island of Hawaii, commonly called "the big island," also hosts a smaller MMA event on a regular basis, but until recently, Maui fans have been out of luck, except for those who flew to Oahu or the big island to attend one of those events. Barros has put together an awesome card of local stand-outs and is even flying in a UFC veteran. This will start off with three four-man tournaments, warming up the crowd for the headliners. Barros has even called upon fellow Brazilian, Marcello Tiger to return to action. Tiger has not fought in Hawaii since last year and is coming back from beating two opponents recently in Brazil. Local favorite, Niko Vitale is also on the card, along with Hawaii’s version of the NHB Energizer bunny, Jay R. Palmer. The venue for this event is aptly named for this fight card. I will be flying to Maui to cover the event for Full Contact Fighter.

Professional bouts:
Falaniko Vitale (S.W.A.T.)
vs.
Duke Paa’aina (Big Island)

J.R. Palmer (Freelance)
vs.
Jason McCormick (Brazilian Freestyle)

Ira Daugherty (North Shore Jiu-Jitsu)
vs.
Augie Padaken (Tiger Academy)

Main Event:
Marcello Tiger (Tiger Academy)
vs.
Keith Mielke (UFC veteran)

Plus:
A four-man semi-pro tournament in three different weight classes.
