Nick Diaz Says What Brother Nate Gets Paid to Fight “Makes me Sick”

Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz is understandably happy that his brother Nate decisioned Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17, but he’s let it be known that he’s very displeased with what his sibling was paid for the bout.

Recently it was reported that Diaz made $40,000 for the win over Johnson, which included a $20,000 win bonus. Alistair Overeem led the way and was paid over $540,000 for his stoppage win over Junior dos Santos.

Since then, Nick appeared on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, and while discussing what his brother was paid, the veteran fighter stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“It makes me sick,” Diaz said. “It makes me sick what I get paid. It makes me sick for what I’ve done in the past. Then you see this guy [McGregor] come out and do really well and it drives you crazy.

“[Nate] is stuck in the stone age back there, but I’m trying to help bring him some understanding. It’s a quick fix, though. They really sell him short, both of us. As far as the 20 and 20, these guys are laughing, thinking it’s a joke. No, dude. That’s what he gets paid.”

Nate Diaz, who has been with the UFC now since 2007, has been openly critical of his UFC contract in the past.
