The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has voted to issue an officialy, temporary suspension to UFC welterweight (170 pounds) contender Nick Diaz, who tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his UFC 143 interim title fight defeat to Carlos Condit on Feb. 4.

A formal disciplinary hearing is expected to be the next step for Diaz, who holds a license medical cannabis in his home state of California.

The episode marked the second time in his career that Diaz tested positive for marijuana in Nevada.  Following his PRIDE 33 matchup with Takanori Gomi in 2007, Diaz’ post-fight drug test came back positive for marijuana, resulting in a six month suspension and fine of 20 percent of his purse from the fight.
