Nick Diaz’s WAR MMA Confirms June 22nd Event, Multiple Bouts Confirmed

Nick Diaz

By FCF Staff

Nick Diaz’s latest venture, a new promotion call WAR MMA, has announced its first card will take place June 22nd at the Stockton Arena, in Stockton, California. The announcement comes just weeks after news surfaced that the former Strikeforce champ and UFC vet was getting into the promotion game, following his decision loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158 in March.

Several bouts have been confirmed for the event including Daniel Roberts vs. Justin Baesman, Antonio Banuelos vs. Benny Vinson, Caleb Mitchell vs. Evan Esguerra, Roy Boughton vs. Liron Wilson, Mike Persons vs. Clayton “Money Shot” McKinney, and Darin Cooley vs. Cody Gibson.

More bouts will be announced in the upcoming days.

According to a press release sent out by the promotion:

Bouts in WAR will be fought under the Unified Rules of MMA, modified to use a ring instead of a cage and disallowing elbow strikes to a grounded opponent. These rules are in place to encourage grapplers to advance their position instead of stalling. Regular matches will be three, five minute rounds, and future championship matches will five, five minute rounds.

After losing to GSP in March, Diaz announced he was likely retiring from competition unless he can secure a rematch with the welterweight champ, or a bout with middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
