ONE FC Kings & Champions: Shinya Aoki Takes Lightweight Crown
By FCF Staff
Shinya Aoki has added the ONE FC lightweight title to his decorated resume, as the former DREAM champ had few difficulties defeating Kotetsu Boku today in Singapore.
It didn’t take long before the feared submission artist was able to take Boku to the mat, but to the former champ’s credit, he was able to work his way out of a neck crank and then a tight looking D’arce Choke.
In round two, Aoki took Boku to the ground quickly once again, and then proceeded to work his way into a fight ending, rear-naked-choke. With the win, Aoki (33-6) has now won three straight, while the defeat for Boku (20-8-2) ended the lightweight’s two fight winning streak.
Here are the official results from today’s event, which also saw Masakatsu Ueda submit former UFC champion Jens Pulver to advance to the finals of the promotion’s bantamweight grand-prix. In the other semifinal, Kevin Belingon stopped Than Vu shortly into round two.
