According to multiple reports, one of Bellator’s feature summer attractions has been hit by injury, as featherweight champion Pat Curran has reportedly suffered a broken orbital bone and will not fight Patricio Freire as scheduled August 24th.

The injury occured while Curran was sparring in preparation for the fight, which was scheduled to take place at Harrah’s Tunica Hotel and Casino in Mississippi. The injury has not been officially announced by Bellator yet, however, Curran posted the following on his Twitter account.

I feel horrible for what happened and there’s nothing I can do about it… As soon as i feel better ill be back at it in the gym.

Curran (17-4) has not fought since March when knocked out Joe Warren at Bellator 60. The former lightweight is currently riding a four fight win streak.

Freire (17-1) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Daniel Strauss in May and has won three straight bouts.

The upcoming August 24th card is set to feature the bantamweight tourney final between Marcos Galvao and Luis Nogueira as well as the light-heavyweight finale between Travis Wiuff and Attila Vegh.
