Alex Ricci has competed in many, pivotal bouts during his extensive combat sports career, but the Canadian fighter says his next one on October 24th will be his biggest yet.

The 33 year-old lightweight is booked to take on Gil Guardado at Prestige Fight Club’s debut event, after earning a decision win over Kyle Prepolec this past May. Since Ricci competed for Bellator not long into his MMA career, and tried out for TUF Nations, some have wondered if a call from the UFC could be in his short term future.

“This upcoming fight is the biggest fight of my life,” Ricci said while appearing on Full Contact Fighter Radio recently. “I’m just going to go with the flow, and when the UFC’s ready, and when I’m ready, when the UFC calls me, I’ll be ready. That will be my time.”

“I’m just being very patient. You’ve got to be patient in this game. My time will come. I know I’m going to make it to the UFC. I believe in myself. I believe in my skills. Just keep on staying focused on my game, improving constantly, and I’m going to reach all of my goals.”

Ricci heads into Prestige FC 1 armed with a pro MMA record of 9-3, after competing in over 50 professional Thai Boxing bouts. The only men to defeat him in MMA to date are accomplished fighters in Ryan Healy, Jesse Ronson and most recently Darrell Horcher.

In Guardado, Ricci will take on a man who went 4-0 in amateur MMA, before transitioning into the pros where he’s 4-1.

“I saw whatever’s on line” said Ricci, when asked for his thoughts on the Xtreme Couture fighter. “He’s a great tough athlete. He comes from a great camp so he has a lot of good training partners. He has really good coaches. He has a boxing base. I think he’s more of a boxer.”

“He’s very aggressive. He’s Xtreme Couture’s strength and conditioning coach so I’m assuming he’s going to be very fit for this fight,” added Ricci. “He’s very strong, aggressive…he has a couple of submission wins. He’s a MMA fighter. He trains wrestling, grappling, and on his feet he’s more of a head hunter. He loves to go for that knockout…”

Prestige FC 1 will be hosted by Weyburn, Saskatchewan’s Crescent Point Place. The card will be available for online viewing via Go Fight Live.
