Hoffman’s third title defense set for Davenport

Bobby Hoffman, the Extreme Challenge heavyweight champion, will make the third defense of his title on Saturday, Aug. 26, at John O’Donnell Stadium in Davenport, Iowa.
Hoffman, from Centerville, Iowa, will face 2-time Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran "Dirty" Harry Moskowitz of Gulfport, La., in the main event of Extreme Challenge XXXVI: Bash at the Ballpark. A total of 12 bouts are scheduled.
"I’m just heading to the top and Moskowitz is another step on the way," Hoffman said. "He’s a good fighter, but my time is now… and it’s right now."
Hoffman has put together a string of eight straight victories, including 5 in a row for the RINGS event in Japan. He will get his first appearance in the UFC on Sept. 22 in New Orleans when he faces former UFC heavyweight champ Maurice Smith.
Also featured on the outdoor event is UFC standout LaVerne Clark, a boxer with a perfect 4-0 UFC mark. Clark, from Davenport, will face Josh Roster of Cedar Falls, Iowa, in a feature bout.
Three 4-man tournaments also are scheduled in the 10,000-seat baseball stadium with fighters coming from as far as Hawaii and Canada to face the best from the Midwest. Ben Earwood, the Extreme Challenge lightweight champion, will compete in a tourney as will UFC veteran and former EC champion Adrian Serrano and Mark Hughes, the twin brother of UFC star Matt Hughes.
Gates open at 5 p.m. for the show with the first bout starting at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $23 for general admission, while box seats are $36. To order by phone, call the Quad City River Bandits at 319 324-3000.
