Extreme Trials scheduled April 7 in Davenport, Iowa

      The Extreme Challenge Trials, a qualifying event for the MMA Nationals, has two events scheduled next month.
      On April 7, the amateur event will be held at Stars & Stripes in Davenport, Iowa. On April 20, the qualifier is scheduled for the Knights of Columbus in Minneapolis, Minn.
      The Iowa event begins at 2 p.m., while the Minnesota event starts at 8 p.m. For more information and applications, email Monte Cox at Fiteiowa@aol.com or call Ed Connelly at 319 650-8585.
      Both shows feature tournament competition in five weight divisions — heavyweight, 210-under, 190-under, 170-under and 150-under. Winners in each division will earn berths to the Nationals, which are scheduled for December. The winners at the Nationals earn pro contracts with Super Brawl, Extreme Challenge and USWF.
      Cost of the Trials is $25 per person if the entry is received prior to the week of the show. Cost is $35 after the early deadline.

Teammate of Uno added to RINGS USA

      COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Masaya Kojima, who trains at the same camp as batamweight star Kaoru Uno, has been added to the RINGS USA card scheduled March 17 at Harveys Casino & Hotel.
      Kojima replaces Wataru Sakata, who was injured while competing in the mega King of Kings event last month. Kojima will face UFC veteran Jermaine Andre of St. Louis.
      The event is the fourth RINGS competition in the U.S. and will be televised by WOWOW-TV of Japan.
      The rest of the RINGS USA card remain intact with nine bouts, featuring eight veterans of the UFC… including Jeremy Horn, Matt Hughes, Bobby Hoffman and LaVerne Clark. Others with UFC experience are Phil Johns, Zane Frazier, Travis Fulton and Andre.
      Also featured on the card are promising newcomers Chatt Lavender, Joe Doerksen and Rich Franklin.
      Tickets for the event, which starts at 8 p.m., are on sale at the Harveys ticket center; order by phone at (712) 329-6000.

In the main event Harris dominates the first round with strikes. In the second and third round Woo totally controls the fight doing all the effective scoring by kicking Harris on the outside and tying him up on the inside. Harris is unable to score. The judges award Tojo Harris a split decision.
