Quote of the Day Via “Rampage” Jackson: “I Think I Can Bring to Boxing What They’re Lacking Right Now”

As “Rampage” Jackson closes in on his UFC on FOX 6 bout this Satuday with Glover Teixeira, which is his the last on his current contract with ZUFFA, the former light-heavyweight champ continues to insist that his time with the promotion is over.

As a result of his grievances with the UFC, which most recently includes an apparent squabble over Jackson’s sponsorship agreement with Reebok, the decorated fighter has been saying a move to boxing is possible. While promoting his bout with Teixeira this week, Jackson relayed to MMA Junkie:

“I think I can bring to boxing what they’re lacking right now,” said Jackson, who is coming off back-to-back losses to Jon Jones and Ryan Bader. “All we really have is (Manny) Pacquiao and (Floyd) Mayweather, in my opinion. We don’t have any (Evander) Holyfields and Mike Tyson right now. I think I can bring that type of energy to boxing.”

Of course it remains to be seen where the 34 year-old star will end up, as due to Jackson’s (32-10) extensive accomplishments and charismatic personality, he’s sure to attract interest within the MMA industry. Whether any promotion can afford–or decides–to pay Jackson the type of money he may be looking for, however, is another matter.
