Quote of the Day: Dana White On Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones: “I Have to Make That Happen”
By FCF Staff
While several months ago most of the “superfight” talk was focused on the possibility of Anderson Silva fighting Georges St. Pierre at some point, more recently, discussion has shifted to a bout between Silva and UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. According to UFC President Dana White it’s a fight that he has every intention of putting together, despite the fact that neither Silva or Jones have been calling for the bout.
While appearing on UFC commentator and comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast, White stated that “I have to make that happen”, while discussing the prospect of Silva fighting Jones.
Although St. Pierre has expressed an interest in facing Silva sometime in the future, the welterweight champ says he will need to leave the welterweight division permanently to do so, at a time when there are plenty of contenders.
St. Pierre will fight Nick Diaz in the upcoming, March 16th, UFC 158 headliner.
Silva appears to be headed into a summer bout with rising middleweight challenger Chris Weidman. Considering the fact the champion has fought at light-heavyweight several times before, a bout with Jones, rather than GSP, appears to be much more feasible.
Jones, meanwhile, is set to fight Chael Sonnen on April 27th at UFC 159.
